WHAT'S HOT AT THE U.S. BOX OFFICE
Week ending 16 November 2008
007 took in 70 at the weekend when the latest James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, banked an estimated $70.4m to claim a franchise record. The 22nd Bond film, Quantum's opening easily topped the previous highest debut of $47.1m by 2002's Die Another Day. It seems even mixed reviews and Quantum's enigmatic title didn't have a negative impact, as Daniel Craig's second outing as Bond also comfortably bettered the $40.8m opening of his debut, Casino Royale.
Last week's number one, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa posted an impressive second week total of $36.1m to claim second place. The figure represented a 43% dip and took the animated animal adventure's total to $118m, making it the 20th film this year to top the $100m mark. However, it's in no danger of topping the year's biggest earner to date, The Dark Knight with $529m. Role Models strutted into third place with $11.7m, a drop of 39% on last week's debut. The comedy starring Seann William Scott and Paul Rudd has a 10-day total of $38.1m.
