If you haven't yet gone down the composting route, autumn is a great time to start as you gather up leaves, empty plant pots and generally tidy up the garden.
Before you ditch those tired summer container plants, cut down your perennials or dig up the bolted veg from your allotment, spend a little time gathering seeds to give you an abundance of flowers and fruits next year.
Thanks to the prolonged rain we've had in the summer, if you're planning to lay a new lawn, now is an ideal time to do it, when the ground is warm and moist.
You may still be enjoying the summer but if you want a good show in spring, it's time to think about what bulbs you need to plant now and through autumn which will give you the colour you need for next year.
